Role Overview

As a Coupa Enterprise Architect, you will lead the end-to-end technical strategy for Coupa implementations and optimizations. You will serve as the primary technical advisor to clients, translating their business challenges into scalable, high-performance architectural designs. Your mission is to ensure that the Coupa platform is seamlessly integrated into the client’s existing IT landscape while maintaining the highest standards of data integrity and system performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural Strategy: Design the "To-Be" technical architecture for Coupa BSM modules (Procure-to-Pay, Invoicing, Expenses, Sourcing, and CLM).
  • Client Advisory: Lead high-stakes workshops with C-suite and IT stakeholders to define system roadmaps and align technical solutions with business ROI.
  • Integration Leadership: Define integration patterns (API-first, middleware/iPaaS like Boomi or MuleSoft, sFTP) between Coupa and various ERP systems.
  • Governance & Compliance: Establish design standards for global rollouts, including multi-currency, multi-tax (VAT/GST), and regional compliance requirements.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide "North Star" guidance to implementation consultants and developers, performing design reviews and troubleshooting complex architectural bottlenecks.
  • Release Management: Evaluate new Coupa releases (3x yearly) to advise clients on how new features impact their custom architecture and integrations.

Qualifications & Skills

1. Professional Experience

  • Total Experience: Minimum of 3 years in Enterprise IT/Procurement technology.
  • Coupa Specific: 3+ years of hands-on experience in Coupa architecture and implementation.
  • Proven Track Record: At least 2–3 full-lifecycle global Coupa implementations for Fortune 500-scale clients.

2. Technical Mastery

  • Integration: Deep knowledge of Coupa APIs (REST), Liquid templates, and Flat File integrations.
  • ERP Ecosystems: Expert understanding of how Coupa interacts with SAP (S/4HANA), Oracle (Fusion), or NetSuite.
  • Middleware: Proficiency with middleware tools (Dell Boomi, MuleSoft, Workato, or SnapLogic).
  • Procure-to-Pay (P2P): Functional mastery of the entire spend lifecycle, from requisition to payment and reconciliation.

3. Soft Skills & Client Facing

  • Executive Presence: Ability to simplify "technical debt" and "API limitations" into business terms for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strategic Problem Solving: Capacity to navigate "out-of-the-box" software constraints using creative architectural workarounds.
  • Negotiation: Experience managing client expectations regarding "customization vs. configuration."

4. Certifications (Required/Preferred)

  • Required: Coupa Certified Platform Architect / Technical Architect.
  • Preferred: Coupa Implementation Consultant certifications in specific modules (Invoicing, Expenses, or CLM).
  • Bonus: TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) or AWS/Azure Solution Architect certifications.
