🌍 The Problem

Uganda processes 30M+ daily mobile transactions, each leaving 50-200 UGX spare change that vanishes unused. That's $2.8B annually across East Africa—wasted while communities desperately need funding for water wells, schools, and infrastructure. Traditional donation systems lack transparency, exclude feature phone users (60% of Ugandans), and offer donors zero control.

💡 Our Solution

PaySmile is a Progressive Web App on Celo blockchain that automatically converts payment round-ups into verified community donations. Users donate spare change, vote on which projects get funded, and earn NFT badges for their impact—all with 100% blockchain transparency.

Progress During Hackathon

✅ Deployed 2 smart contracts on Celo Alfajores (DonationPool.sol + SmileBadgeNFT.sol) ✅ Built Next.js 15 PWA with 8 functional pages (Dashboard, Projects, Badges, History, Settings) ✅ Integrated wagmi + viem for real-time blockchain interaction ✅ Implemented donation flow, voting system, and NFT badge minting ✅ Achieved 92/100 Lighthouse score, <3s load time, mobile-first design ✅ 100+ successful test transactions on Alfajores testnet 🚧 Backend API (Node.js) and USSD integration in development
