Senior Manager Cloud FinOps

This position, also known as Cloud Economist, will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing strategies for the financial aspects of our cloud computing services, specifically with Microsoft Azure. He / She will strategize some plans utilizing his expertise in cost effective cloud resource management, budgeting, and forecasting. He will work closely with our transformation partners and contribute to our Cloud Center of Excellence, sharing his / her insights and best practices with other cloud experts and enthusiasts

Cost Management and Optimization

• Conduct thorough analyses of Azure cloud spending, utilizing Azure Cost Management tools to break down costs by service, department, and project.

• Identify underutilized or inefficiently allocated Azure resources and propose optimization strategies such as right sizing or reserved instances.

• Implement tagging and resource grouping policies to enhance cost allocation and tracking.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

• Develop comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports on cloud spending, highlighting trends, anomalies, and areas of concern.

• Perform variance analysis between actual cloud spend and budget forecasts, investigating and explaining significant discrepancies.

• Create custom dashboards and reports for different stakeholders using Azure’s reporting tools or third-party software.

Budgeting and Forecasting

• Suggests capacity changes as demand dictates.

• Communicates with end users on issues, scheduled maintenance, etc.

• Documents processes and stores them in the team’s SharePoint site for access by the team.

Cloud Financial Policies and Procedures

• Develop comprehensive policies for cloud procurement, usage, and cost allocation, ensuring efficient and responsible spending.

• Conduct regular audits of cloud expenditures to ensure compliance with established policies and financial controls.

• Keep abreast of changes in Azure pricing, services, and financial management tools to continually refine policies and procedures.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Facilitate workshops and training sessions for various teams to promote understanding of cloud economics and responsible cloud usage.

• Act as a bridge between finance and IT departments, ensuring alignment of cloud strategy with overall business objectives and financial planning.

• Engage with external vendors and consultants to benchmark cloud spending and explore opportunities for cost savings or efficiency improvements.

Tools and Resource Management

• Expertly navigate and utilize Azure Cost Management, Azure Advisor, and other relevant tools for detailed cost analysis and forecasting.

• Evaluate and implement third-party cost management tools if they offer additional benefits over existing Azure tools.

• Continuously update skills and knowledge regarding Azure services and cloud financial management trends through professional development and certifications
