The Accounting Assistant will provide day-to-day accounting support, maintain accurate financial records, and assist with ensuring compliance with government and regulatory reporting (e.g., the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)). You will play a key role in supporting the Finance team, reconciling accounts, processing payables/receivables, and coordinating with auditors and regulatory bodies.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Assist in maintaining accurate business accounting records.
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Complete assigned balance sheet general ledger reconciliations monthly and provide support to the Accountant.
- Perform ad-hoc duties as required to support the Finance Team.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Manage the accounts receivable process including debtor collections and weekly/monthly reporting in line with company policy.
- Support the accounts payable process: assist department managers on creditor queries, process supplier invoices, reimbursements and payment requests in a timely manner.
- Prepare and monitor aging reports and ensure timely collection of receivables.
- Maintain proper documentation and reconciliation of all AP and AR transactions.
Reconciliations
- Perform regular inter-company and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies and ensure reconciling items are addressed promptly.
Compliance & Tax
- Assist in the preparation and filing of statutory returns (e.g., VAT, Withholding Tax, Income Tax).
- Assist in compliance with BIR, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and other regulatory requirements.
- Support external audit processes and respond to auditor queries.
- Liaise directly with the BIR for compliance-related matters including registration updates, document submissions, and filing of tax returns.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain accounting systems and ensure proper documentation of procedures.
- Participate in system upgrades, process enhancements, and automation initiatives.
Qualifications
- Degree in Accountancy or a Finance-related course.
- At least 1 year of experience in relevant accounting work.
- Understanding of Philippine Financial Reporting Standards (PFRS) and tax regulations.
- Knowledge of accounting software (e.g., Xero, Microsoft Dynamics 365).
- Proficient in MS Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis).
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
