NearByMedi

NearByMedi is a streamlined healthcare platform designed to make accessing medicines easier and more efficient. Its unique selling proposition (USP) is to provide users with the nearest store that not only has a specific medicine available but also stocks all the medicines they wish to purchase, solving the common problem of visiting multiple pharmacies. The app enables users to search for medicines from an extensive database containing approximately 254,000 medicine names and details, meticulously sourced from Kaggle datasets for accuracy and reliability. Users can then locate the nearest pharmacies with availability and navigate to the shop using integrated maps. To ensure comprehensive coverage, the platform features a curated database of all medical shops in West Bengal, India, built from scratch or scraped to include every possible option, allowing users to find the closest pharmacies with ease.

For shop owners, NearByMedi offers a simple dashboard to upload inventory via Excel sheets, ensuring real-time updates that keep the platform’s information current for users. Built with a robust tech stack—including React for the frontend and Flask for the backend—the app leverages advanced tools like AI-assisted designs and pre-existing assets to deliver a professional and user-friendly experience. The development team has also prioritized responsiveness, ensuring the website functions seamlessly across desktops, tablets, and smartphones, enhancing accessibility for all users regardless of their device.

Currently hosted at nearbymedi.store, the platform is focused on bridging the gap between pharmacies and users in West Bengal. Looking ahead, it has the potential to scale to nationwide coverage

During the hackathon, we developed NearByMedi, a platform that helps users find the nearest pharmacy with a required medicine and guides them there via an integrated map. We built the frontend using React, keeping the design clean and user-friendly, and developed the backend using Flask to handle medicine searches and shop uploads. We implemented the Haversine formula to calculate distances and used an external API for detailed medicine info. The database was set up with a focus on pharmacies in West Bengal, involving over six hours of data scraping and processing. We also created a dashboard where shop owners can upload their inventory through Excel files. The platform was deployed using Render, and we purchased the domain nearbymedi.store for hosting. Despite tight time constraints, we completed the core features and documented the user flow using GIFs. The hackathon taught us a lot, especially about data handling, real-time systems, and team collaboration.
