Sabi is a project that entails making a difference in the campuses of African universities through crypto
"Sabi" is Nigerian pidgin for "to know". This system lets you know who you're dealing with, and get services easily without compromising their personal data. It has one foundational layer and a killer first application.
This is the key to the entire system. To join the Sabi network, you must verify you are a real UNILAG student.
How it Works: A student connects their Solana wallet to the Sabi app. They are then prompted to log in using their official UNILAG student portal credentials one time.
Verification: An backend service (which we can simulate for the hackathon) verifies the credentials against the university's system.
The Mint: Upon successful verification, a non-transferable NFT (a Soul-Bound Token) is minted directly to their wallet. This "Sabi ID" is their digital passport. It proves they are a registered student without publicly revealing their name or student number. It's pseudonymity with accountability.
This directly neuters the threat. Anonymous cultists or scammers can't get a Sabi ID. To be on the network, you have to be a real, verifiable student.
Now that we have a network of trusted students, we solve a massive, daily headache: paying for campus shuttles.
The Problem: The current system is a mess of cash, arguments over change, and unpredictable wait times. It's slow and inefficient.
The Solution: Every registered campus shuttle has a QR code on display. A student with a "Sabi ID" opens the app, scans the code, and the exact fare (e.g., 100 Naira) is paid instantly using Solana Pay (USDC). No cash, no delay.
Why It's a Trojan Horse: This is the high-frequency use case that gets everyone on board. It's a 10x improvement over the current system. Once students and service providers are using Sabi for shuttles, they are primed for more.
With the Sabi ID as a foundation, you can now build the P2P marketplace that was previously too risky.
"Sabi Gigs": Need someone in a different faculty to help you print a project? Pay them safely through the app. All users are verified students.
"Sabi Market": Buy and sell textbooks, used electronics, or anything else with other verified students.
"Sabi Stay": Find roommates for your off-campus apartment. You can filter for only Sabi ID holders, drastically reducing the risk of scams or dangerous living situations.
Reputation is Key: After every transaction, users can rate each other. This rating is tied to their Sabi ID, building an on-chain reputation. A bad actor can't just create a new account; their reputation follows their verified ID.
This isn't just a tool. It's a security and commerce infrastructure for the entire university. It starts by fixing the damn shuttle buses and grows into the central, trusted hub for all student-to-student interaction. It's feasible, it's UNILAG-specific, and it directly addresses the deep-seated need for trust and safety.
we were only able to work really well with the sabi shuttle pay, but we have not been able to fully integrate solana pay with it yet, we have written code on rust and anchor, but since it's our first time with this kind of tech, it has been exceptionally difficult and we couldn't get it through before the deadline
currently, we have not raised any funds
