Senior AI Engineer / Engineering Lead

Remote | Full-time

HeyApril is an AI-powered tax intelligence platform helping creators optimize their taxes through document analysis, strategy matching, and direct CPA consultation. We’re a small, fast-moving team that ships weekly and uses AI as a core part of how we build.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and build core AI workflows: document extraction (AWS Textract), vector search (LanceDB), and LLM prompt orchestration
  • Ship production features using Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind, and modern frontend tools
  • Integrate backend services and APIs (Supabase, Postgres, financial tools)
  • Mentor a junior AI engineer through code reviews and technical guidance
  • Make architectural decisions and keep systems simple, scalable, and maintainable

What We’re Looking For

  • 4+ years of full-stack experience (React/Next.js + Python or Node.js)
  • Hands-on experience shipping AI-powered features in production
  • Strong background in LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, or vector databases
  • Daily user of AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot, etc.)
  • Clear communicator in a remote, async-first setup

Nice to Have

  • Experience with OCR or document processing
  • Exposure to fintech, tax, or compliance domains
  • Familiarity with Supabase, Vercel, or Postgres

Why HeyApril

  • High ownership, real impact
  • Small team, no red tape
  • Competitive compensation + equity
  • Work closely with product and domain experts (CPA)

Interested candidates may be contacted directly or invited to send details via email:

  1. A short note on why HeyApril interests you
  2. One example of an AI-powered feature you shipped (can be brief—what was it, what was hard, what worked)
  3. Your GitHub or portfolio (we'll look at code quality, not volume)
