The Cloud Operations Lead (Managed Services) is responsible for leading the delivery of proactive and reactive cloud operations services across Azure-based and hybrid infrastructure environments. This role ensures high availability, security, performance, and cost efficiency while overseeing operational governance, backup and disaster recovery readiness, identity services, and DevOps-enabled automation.
The position serves as the senior technical escalation point within a managed services model and provides architectural direction across Azure infrastructure, AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service), Microsoft 365, identity platforms, networking services, and CI/CD ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities1. Operational Leadership
- Serve as the senior technical lead and escalation point for Azure and hybrid infrastructure incidents.
- Oversee 8x5 managed cloud operations, ensuring SLA compliance and operational excellence.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to cloud operations engineers.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across monitoring, automation, incident management, and DevOps integration.
- Establish and enforce operational standards for Azure, AKS, Microsoft 365, identity services, and network infrastructure.
2. Azure & Infrastructure Operations
- Lead monitoring and management of Azure infrastructure, including:
- Virtual Machines, storage, networking, and compute services
- Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters and container workloads
- Azure networking components (VNets, NSGs, Load Balancers)
- Ensure operational support for on-premise and hybrid services including:
- Active Directory (AD)
- DNS and DHCP
- Windows and Linux operating systems
- Oversee Microsoft 365 administration and operations, including identity integration, user lifecycle management, and service availability.
- Drive cloud cost optimization initiatives, including right-sizing, capacity planning, and usage analysis.
3. Identity, Security & Networking
- Lead Identity and Access Management (IAM) operations across Azure AD / Entra ID and on-prem Active Directory environments.
- Oversee DNS infrastructure management and resolution troubleshooting.
- Lead managed network services including firewalls, WAF, IDS/IPS, and secure connectivity.
- Ensure implementation and operational oversight of encryption, key management, and endpoint security controls.
- Oversee antivirus, antimalware, and endpoint security incident response.
4. Backup, Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery
- Own enterprise backup strategy and ensure daily, weekly, and monthly backup verification and reporting.
- Ensure backup reliability across Azure workloads, AKS clusters, databases, and Microsoft 365 services.
- Lead Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) planning and execution.
- Plan and conduct disaster recovery drills (minimum twice annually).
- Drive continuous improvements in recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO).
5. DevOps & Automation
- Provide technical oversight for CI/CD pipeline management in collaboration with DevOps teams.
- Ensure infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices are implemented for Azure resource provisioning.
- Drive automation initiatives to improve deployment reliability and operational efficiency.
- Support AKS container deployments, release management, and pipeline integration.
- Promote DevOps culture across operations and engineering teams.
6. Reactive Support & Incident Management
- Lead Priority 1 (P1) incident response and root cause analysis.
- Oversee configuration change management and infrastructure release coordination.
- Ensure timely resolution of production incidents affecting Azure, Microsoft 365, AD, DNS, and AKS workloads.
- Coordinate with engineering, security, and vendor teams during critical incidents.
7. Architecture, Optimization & Advisory
- Provide technical solution design and consultation for Azure and hybrid cloud initiatives.
- Deliver advisory services on Microsoft 365, identity architecture, and cloud modernization strategies.
- Guide containerization strategies using AKS and cloud-native design principles.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor, delivering strategic recommendations aligned with business objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Extensive experience in Azure cloud operations within a managed services or enterprise environment.
- Strong hands-on expertise in:
- Microsoft Azure infrastructure and services
- Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
- Microsoft 365 administration
- Active Directory (on-prem and hybrid)
- DNS and network services
- Backup and Disaster Recovery planning and execution
- DevOps practices and CI/CD pipeline management
- Proven experience acting as a senior escalation point or technical lead.
- Deep understanding of infrastructure monitoring, patching, cost optimization, and security operations.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
