Senior Backend / Systems Engineer

Remote | Full-Time | Poland or Romania

Compensation: USD $6,000–8,500/month (B2B), depending on experience

Schedule: Must overlap at least 4 hours with US Eastern business hours (roughly 3pm–7pm local time or later). On-call and some weekend work possible.


About the Company

We're a fast-growing US dental technology company operating a live healthcare operations platform that manages digital cases, quality control, production, shipping, billing, and customer support. Our platform integrates with multiple third-party systems and supports thousands of clinic workflows daily.

We're looking for an experienced engineer to take ownership of our platform, strengthen reliability and security, and improve long-term maintainability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Own and troubleshoot the live production system, including outages and root-cause analysis.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, automated testing, and reliable deployment processes.
  • Strengthen security, access controls, backups, and sensitive health data protection.
  • Maintain third-party API integrations, webhooks, and background jobs.
  • Improve code quality through testing and steady refactoring.
  • Support internal operations, finance, and customer support teams with technical issues.


Requirements

  • 6+ years of backend development experience.
  • Proven experience owning a production system end to end.
  • Strong Python and SQL skills.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript/HTML, Docker, REST APIs, webhooks, background jobs, and cloud deployment.
  • Daily use of AI coding tools and the ability to identify AI-generated errors.
  • Strong security awareness and excellent written and spoken English.


Nice to have: Healthcare or logistics systems, payments and invoicing, browser automation, or internal operations tools experience.


Technology Stack

Python, SQL, Docker, managed cloud hosting, REST APIs, webhooks, background workers, browser automation, and company-paid AI coding tools.


First 90-Day Goals

  • Implement production monitoring and alerting.
  • Establish automated tests for every deployment.
  • Complete a security and access-control audit.
  • Reduce founders' involvement in day-to-day technical issues.


Compensation and Benefits

  • USD $6,000–8,500/month (B2B), depending on experience.
  • Monthly USD payments via Wise or Deel, on time every month.
  • Major US holidays off (e.g., Christmas, Easter); we follow the US calendar, not local holidays.
  • Equipment budget, internet stipend, and company-paid AI tools.
  • Compensation review at 6 months, with a path to Head of Engineering.


Working Arrangements

  • Location: Remote, Poland or Romania.
  • Hours: At least 4 hours of overlap with US Eastern business hours (roughly 3pm–7pm local time or later).
  • Availability: On-call and some weekend work may be required.
  • English: Strong written and spoken English required.


Hiring Process (Approximately 3 Weeks)

  1. 15-minute introductory call.
  2. 60-minute live systems session.
  3. Founder interview.
  4. Reference checks.
  5. 2–4 week paid trial at the full rate.
