AhaarSathi is a user-friendly AI-powered app that helps individuals make healthier food choices—especially for Indian cuisine—by simply taking a single photo of their meal. With just one click, users get an instant breakdown of calories and key nutrients, thanks to advanced image recognition trained specifically on Indian dishes. This effortless approach removes the hassle of manual tracking, making healthy living more accessible to everyone, regardless of tech-savviness or age. Users can also choose to input dishes manually for added flexibility. In light of India's rising obesity crisis—projected to affect nearly one-third of the population by 2050—AhaarSathi offers an innovative, culturally relevant solution that tackles the issue at its root: unhealthy diets. Unlike generic calorie counters, it understands the complexity of Indian meals, offering accurate insights that are meaningful and actionable. Backed by robust technical execution, a smooth mobile-first UI, and scalable design, AhaarSathi empowers users to take control of their health—one photo at a time.

During the hackathon, we successfully built the core functionality of AhaarSathi, focusing on AI-based image recognition tailored for Indian cuisine. Using YOLO v8 we have developed and trained the model to analyze food images and provide real-time nutritional insights. The calorie tracking pipeline from image input to nutrient output was implemented and tested. Additionally, we created a manual input option for flexibility, secured the backend with authentication, and designed a clean, mobile-friendly UI. By the end of the hackathon, we had a functional MVP that could recognize common Indian dishes and present accurate data—marking a solid step toward real-world deployment.
